ABOUT THE PROJECT

In 2015, Margaret Ferguson started painting 100 oil portraits of the sailors lost in the Iolaire disaster - one for each year of the centenary. The paintings have been gifted to the islands of Lewis and Harris, for future generations.

You can see the paintings together in An Lanntair, Stornoway from the 29th of December 2018 - 2nd of March 2019.
"When people look at these paintings, I feel I want them to make a human connection, whatever that is. And to feel moved, of course. That's why I feel it's so important to commemorate them now. I feel I'm honouring them in a way - what they went through."
